Highlights
Jaylen Brown has got to be the greatest NBA player of all time (and I'm not necessarily talking about his game).
You may know he recently signed the largest NBA contract of all time ($303.7 Million), but did you know that Jaylen also:
- Was Top of his High School class
- He was taking master-level classes at Berkeley his first semester of college
- He played on the chess varsity team at UC Berkeley
- NBA Scouts were originally worried he was too smart for the NBA and might get bored with basketball being a job
- He was offered an internship at NASA
- Youngest person to ever lecture at Harvard
- Plays multiple instruments, including guitar and piano
- He's an avid reader, especially when it comes to history books
- Named an MIT Media Lab Fellow
- Worked with MIT to create the Bridge program - a program that mentors students of color in the Boston area who are interested in STEM careers
- Spends off time at away games visiting galleries and museums as he's an avid art connaisseur
- At 22, he was the youngest ever elected official for Vice President of the National Basketball Players Association (NBA Union)
- Founded the 7uice Foundation, which strives to find athletic and academic opportunities for underserved youth
- Negotiated his own contract when he was the 3rd pick in the 2016 draft
And now we get to watch what he does with all that money from his historical contract!
This is going to be fun, and I truly think he is smart enough to make some serious change in the world ❤️
I can't believe Scott Havens has been the most constant person in my life for the past 4 years 🤯
But seriously, my life has been an uproar of tribulations of trying to figure out who I am and why I'm here ever since the world shut down in 2020.
2 failed relationships, coming out to the world in a viral post, gaining and losing the weight of a toddler, breaking every bone in my left leg, losing my closest family member, and shutting everyone off to see who would fight hard enough to stay in my life (you know, trauma) and the one that won was Scott Havens, who would have thought?!
Doing Drinks With Leaders has been a constant light in my life over the years and even on the weeks where I could barely stand to collect myself enough to shower, it forced me to show up and be "on" (something I truly needed).
So the fact that this show, that we started to feel more connected in 2020, turned 4 this week is insanity to me!
Thank you, Scott, for forcing me to be your friend (and I say that with all sincerity). Thank you to your amazing wife, Julie Havens, who has supported us each step of the way. Thank you to Wendy Reynolds, who took a chance on us with the first sponsorship the show had. Thank you to each and every guest (all 700+ of you) who agreed to share your stories with us. What an honor!!!
Also, thank you to Bank of Blue Valley, a division of HTLF Bank, Burns & McDonnell, and Bestway International, Inc., who have all sponsored the show over the past 4 years ❤️
Sometimes, life can be really painful, but if you're lucky, you'll find yourself a Scott Havens who refuses to give up on you and helps you get to the other side no matter how much you try not to let them.
Here's to another 4 years 🥂
