I don’t usually do this but I wanted to share an update on what's been going on in my life, in hopes it will give my colleagues and friends some perspective into what it feels like to be a Jew right now.
The terror attack by Hamas on innocent Israeli citizens has been horrific and the Jewish people are really suffering. The sadness and fear my community is experiencing is overwhelming. Personally, and collectively, we are not okay.
As some of you know, my sister-in-law lives in Israel. As news of the malicious terror attacks broke out on Saturday morning, my sister-in-law and her family quickly packed bags and fled to the airport. They flew to Greece to escape the blood bath that was taking place. They arrive in the US tonight and will be living with me for the foreseeable future. The next few weeks will be an extremely tense and emotional time for us.
In addition, so many of our friends have been called up to the army, leaving their young families behind as they go to war with terrorists. We are terrified for their safety and fear that Israel's existence is at stake.
As a proud American Express colleague for 7 years, I cherish the love and support we provide to each other in our times of need. For myself, and your Jewish colleagues around the world, this is our darkest hour, and we need you. We need to feel your comfort, your empathy, and know that you care. We need to see your solidarity, in public and in private, regardless of your religion or political position.
So please check in on your Jewish friends and colleagues, and other people that may be impacted by these tragic events. Show your solidarity on social media, and take a clear and defiant stand against terrorism. And if you want to support further, please consider making a donation to support the humanitarian crisis and Israel's efforts to eradicate terrorism. There is a long road ahead and we are all praying for the safety of our community and that peace is restored in the future.
