Today is an exciting day! The 100 Year EdTech Project Guide was published, providing strategic plans and insights for the next 50 years of education aided by technology.

In February, I participated in the Technology at Arizona State University 100 Year EdTech Project Design Summit thanks to my professor, Robert Duvall. We spent the summit exploring how higher education will shift in the coming century as society and technology progress.

My working group was specifically focused on how genetic modification of humans will alter what and how we teach. It was fascinating to parallel this to the current rise of generative ai in schools and the workforce to critically explore the changing role of higher education in the US. It was a pleasure to work with so many thoughtful leaders from innovative institutions.

Additionally, I got the chance to share my thoughts on how we can intentionally center higher education around community impact, student joy, and 21st-century skills through speaking on a panel moderated by the amazing Kiara Williams.

Thank you so much to all of the organizers of this lovely event. Specifically, Lev Gonick for your vision and leadership and Samantha Adams Becker for your warmth, energy, and ability to make it all happen!

If you're a student not enjoying college or someone interested in the future of higher education, this piece is for you.

I took a gap semester after my sophomore year at Duke University because college wasn't working for me. I moved to SF and worked with Helena Merk and Douglas Qian on Spirals and it was life changing. I returned to college after and have thrived.

This story isn't unique to me. Gap semesters during college are becoming more popular and every student I know that has embarked on one has had a similar transformative experience.

Here's an article I wrote about the merits of gap semesters. In the piece, I interview the amazing Emily Cole, Adam Yook, and Allison Chen about their gap semesters from Duke where they respectively wrote a book, built self-balancing bikes, and went to pastry school in France.

Did you take a gap semester during college? Thinking about taking one? Let me know. I'd love to chat.
