When starting FirstMile Ventures in Colorado we often heard some version of you can't build a great company there because everyone is going to leave work early to ski, bike, etc...eventually they'll need to move to the coasts. The world has woken up to the fact that it's a false choice that you have to live in a place with poor quality of life to make your company successful. Turns out that founders and the talent they need to hire want to live in great place with amazing cities, weather and access to the outdoors.
I expect that Denver-based Ibotta, Inc.'s announcement of their upcoming IPO will be the first of a handful of private company liquidity events that will drive this point home.
