Are your kids back in school yet?

If so, I realize the last thing you want to think about now is summer camp, but trust me — it’s the perfect time to do that!

Hear me out….

One hard-learned #workingparent truth is how much time, energy, and money goes into solving the summer #childcare puzzle each year for those living in the United States.

I won’t go into how much better it is in other countries (though Katherine Goldstein has written brilliantly about this).

Or how solving this #parenting challenge (as with many others) is easier for those with the means to pay for summer camp.

When my kids were younger, they’d go to whatever camps we signed them up for. But as they got older, they started to have opinions.

Now, we not only have to factor in cost, location, and availability, but their preferences as well.

One of the best things I’ve done in recent years is have my kids rank their summer camps at the end of each summer when the camps are still fresh in their minds.

I take a picture of their notes and use this data as an input into next year’s sign-ups.

If (when) they groan, I show them last summer's rankings and remind them that I’ve taken their preferences into account.

Do your future self a favor and try this with your kids today!

(And vote for candidates with #care on their agendas so we can address this on a systemic level instead of an individual one.)

Do you also feel icky about self-promotion?

Same.

Well, I have bad news and good news.

The bad news: You can’t opt out of it.

Why? Because like it or not, every time you show up in front of other people (IRL or on this platform), you’re putting information into the world that shapes their opinion of you.

The only choice you have is what information you provide.

The good news: This reframe means that self-promotion isn’t bragging — it’s being the source of your own information.

And there are many low-lift, low-stakes ways to share positive information about yourself that will help others see you as the Likeable Badass that you are.

Like harnessing your out-of-office reply to show up as capable and warm.

What?!

Want to know more? I share more details in my latest newsletter (link in comments), along with what I’m doing differently in my own practice as a direct result of this learning.

Beyond the newsletter, you should really pre-order my friend Alison Fragale's new book, LIKEABLE BADASS. It’s chock-full of juicy science-backed wisdom (pre-order link in comments).

Bonus: if you’re subscribed to my newsletter, you’ll have a chance to win a galley copy BEFORE it hits shelves on September 3rd, plus some fun swag. Enter by Sunday, August 25!
