All you need to nail HR is a playbook, right?

Look at the state of the HR world today, and you might come to that conclusion. It’s not uncommon to see HR leaders “dust off” their go-to playbooks in each new role or company.

And why not? If it worked over there, it’ll work over here, right?

Not necessarily.

Here’s the thing — there’s nothing inherently wrong with using a playbook. The problem is that playbooks are often leveraged in place of a real diagnosis of what is and isn’t working in the business.

If you’re not addressing performance gaps, you’re just checking boxes with the playbook. The risk? Implementing initiatives that don’t have any business rationale behind them. Spinning your wheels. Wasting time on things that aren’t going to drive business performance and results.

Because what works for one company might not work for the next. Every org has its own unique dynamics, challenges, and strengths at play — and those have to be understood before they can be addressed and leveraged.

So, if you want to make changes in an org that matter, shelve the cookie-cutter playbooks and build customized, authentic strategies that are aligned with your organizational goals.
