commonFont's founding in Bozeman, Montana, is the story of an odyssey.
In 2010, I set off on a roadtrip across the Mountain West, searching for a future home. I was motivated by a desire to learn about businesses that succeed in smaller, more remote cities, and cities that thrive despite being smaller and remote. I was equipped with a spreadsheet that prioritized stops based on indicators like 'entrepreneurial,' 'college town,' 'tech scene,' and 'high quality of life.'
Bozeman ranked first in my predictive model.
When we started commonFont in Bozeman, the community was a cowtown, not yet bolstered by trends of remote work and relocation to smaller cities, the popularity of the TV series Yellowstone, and greater availability of funding for startups located off the beaten path. The mix of entrepreneurialism, creativity, tech, and community contribution inspired us to set down roots and build a company here.
Fast forward to today, and Bozeman is on the map, with a swiftly growing population, more diverse economy, and broad enthusiasm for this valley in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, ringed by mountain ranges, world-class trout fishing rivers, and access to the wild outdoors.
