Today we’re excited to announce Comun’s $21.5M series A fundraise led by Redpoint.

The current year has been marked by very exciting growth, catalyzed by our team’s decision to build our own banking infrastructure. Our annualized payments volume has eclipsed $1B, and we're on track to surpass $100M in annualized remittances volume, despite launching the feature five months ago.

A few callouts of appreciation:

First and foremost, to our incredible team – they’ve made all of this possible and are most responsible for our momentum. We’ve built a culture of not shying away from any challenge.

To our existing investors: Mark Selcow from Costanoa Ventures, who's been in our corner since day one; Antonio Osio and Nico Berardi at ANIMO Ventures – whose support has only grown stronger and stronger; Finn Meeks at South Park Commons, who helped me take my entrepreneurial leap; and Matias Barbero from FJ Labs, whose perspectives on the industry are always enlightening.

To our new partners Annie Kadavy and Meera Clark – your energy has been contagious and I'm very excited to build something amazing together.

At Comun we like to say that immigrants are the ultimate entrepreneurs, carrying a relentless work ethic in search of a better future for their families. There’s so much more to do to achieve our mission of helping them turn their hard work into upward mobility.

We'll remain heads down :)

Big thanks to Mary Ann Azevedo for the feature:

Today we announced Comun’s seed funding.

I met Andres Santos 16 months ago, while working with Aditya Agarwal and Finn Meeks to figure out what to build after my time at Brex.

Within our first conversation, his clarity of thought and conviction around this problem stood out. It didn’t take long for him to convince me to meet him in New York to explore his thesis together.

We interviewed >50 hispanics around Washington Heights and Queens, and very quickly we became emotionally attached to this problem. We were hearing immigrants’ stories of long journeys, incredible sacrifice, and arduous non-stop work – all for the sake of pushing their families in LATAM forward.

Yet when we asked about their financial life, it became clear that the system wasn’t helping them turn their hard work into stability, let alone upwards mobility. We are putting this affinity towards hard work and family at the core of our vision for Comun. We want to allow latinos to thrive in the US, and to share their hard-earned financial access with their relatives in Latin America.

We’ve seen very promising adoption since launching four months ago, with 20% WoW growth and more than $1M in payment volume. More importantly, when talking to customers, there’s a big appetite towards getting additional services of all types through Comun.

There’s years of work still ahead, and we’re excited to keep helping immigrants build a better future for their families.

HUGE shoutout to Mark Selcow, who has been an amazing supporter, and to our teammates that have made all of this possible: Jaime L., Luis Fernando Varela Eleta, Kate Bonner, Alvaro Siman, Roberto Yoc, Kevin Barrera Hernández, Charisse Y., Rolando Cruz, Devin C., Elliott Jobson.
