In it, I share my perspective on the commonly used phrase, "don’t get your hope up!”
It’s a phrase we likely heard all of the time growing up to help us temper our expectations. But fundamentally beneath this phrase is the idea connected to the belief that life is happening to us, not for us or by us.
When we view ourselves as passive receptors in life, we root into a belief that life is beyond our control -- that we are a victim to everything negative, and a grateful beggar of everything good.
