Country Representative at Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)

Achala Abeysinghe is an internationally recognized climate change and sustainable development expert with over 18 years of experience in strategic leadership, managerial, fundraising, and research.

She holds a PhD in International Environmental Law on Climate Change from Kent Law School, University of Kent, UK, and is a qualified lawyer and ESG sustainability professional.

Achala's expertise lies in building and leading international multidisciplinary teams, delivering innovative strategies on global climate governance, green growth, and climate-resilient sustainable development programs.

She is renowned for her skills in trust, relationship, and partnership building, particularly between international donor communities, developing countries, and other stakeholders.

Currently, Achala Abeysinghe serves as the Country Representative for Papua New Guinea at the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), focusing on green growth and climate resilience.

Prior to her current role, she held various significant positions such as Head of Global Climate Law, Policy, and Governance Program at the International Institute for Environment and Development in the UK, Legal Advisor to the Chair of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group in UNFCCC, and Head of Training and Support Program at the European Capacity Building Initiative (ecbi).

Among her recognitions, Achala was named one of the Top 15 Female Climate Champions globally and part of the 'GOOD 100' by GOOD Magazine for her innovative approaches to addressing global challenges.

In 2020, she received the 'Role Model of the Year' award at GGGI for her exemplary professionalism, integrity, and dynamic leadership.

Aside from her professional endeavors, Achala Abeysinghe enjoys scuba diving as a certified diver and is a fervent gardener.

Her educational background includes a Master's in Law in International and European Environmental Law, a Bachelor's in Law with Honors, and additional studies in International Climate Change.
