Highlights
I'm very happy to be able to tell people about my next venture...
Short version:
https://easyuserlab.com is a cloud-based UX Lab system.
We're invite-only at the moment, but will be launching to a wider group soon.

Please tell UX practitioners about it - they can finally have their own good, working, reliable, not-expensive lab!
Longer version: I recently left my own company after 8 years. We specialised in designing and building UX Labs, using big racks of expensive, difficult hardware. This was the best way to build labs in the past.
Before that, I'd been at Google for 10years where I designed and built all of Google's UX infrastructure globally - labs, design centres, software, hardware. I also managed Research Ops for Google globally.
Until now, having a working lab has been restricted to the top 5% of companies - restricted by cost, space, and having the time and people to build and run the complex hardware.
In my years at Google and my own company, I'd always strived to make a system that was simple, easy for Researchers to implement and use, automated, powerful, and not expensive. I want all Researchers to have access to the best possible technology.
Easy User Lab is that system. It took a long time to get to this point!
It's both a lab, and a Field Kit - build a lab at your office, and take it with you anywhere there's internet. It's a pretty adaptable system... take it to a cafe, a users' home, or to a client's office.
Same lab, same system, any location.
Please tell Researchers, Designers, and anyone else in the UX and Marketing worlds - obviously I want my new venture to be successful, but I also want to let as many people as possible know that there's now a system that anyone can use / try / buy.
Short version: I left my own company.
Long version: I left Google in 2016, after nearly 10yrs there, to found a company in a niche where at the time there was no one - technology for User Research. Specifically: building hardware UX labs and spaces. We did well, grew quickly, adapted the business to user and market needs (e.g. we ended up providing research services as a more traditional consultancy, something we never intended) and we even ended up becoming a furniture supplier to our clients. You never know where your own company will end up. I loved the process, loved running the business, and learned a lot.
Now, nearly 9 years on, I've decided it's time for something new. UX-Study will carry on without me, and I wish the company well for the future.
I'll update here in the coming weeks with what I do next.
oh... and I won't be boring you all with "Things I learned leaving Google to start a business" because everyone does that and my take would likely add little. However... if anyone is thinking of setting up on their own - in UX, or technology more broadly - I'm always happy to chat to people to share my experiences.
