Judicial Greffier

Adam Clarke is the Judicial Greffier of the Royal Court of Jersey, a position he has held since July 2018.3 As Judicial Greffier, he is responsible for the administration of the judiciary in Jersey, overseeing the smooth operation of the courts and tribunals on the island.3 Clarke's role includes managing a team of approximately 50 staff members and leading a senior management team of 10 people.3

Prior to his appointment as Judicial Greffier, Clarke was the Managing Partner at Le Gallais and Luce, a law firm in Jersey.2 He was appointed to the office of Judicial Greffier by the Bailiff in February 2018.2

In his capacity as Judicial Greffier, Clarke also serves as the Chair of the Legal Aid Guidelines Advisory Committee, which advises and assists the Chief Minister in making Jersey's Legal Aid Scheme.4

Clarke's responsibilities include:

  1. Directing and controlling operations of the Magistrate's Court, Petty Debts Court, and Youth Court.1
  2. Setting strategic aims and goals aligned with those of the Judicial Greffe.1
  3. Implementing policies for effective and efficient service delivery.1
  4. Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.1
  5. Handling complaints related to court administration.3

It's worth noting that the Judicial Greffier is accountable only to the Bailiff, as it is a Crown appointment and part of the judiciary, not an employee of the States of Jersey.3
