On Saturday morning, Google was honored to host the graduation ceremony of the 2024 U.S. Embassy Singapore - Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Alumni Mentoring Program. Now in its 12th year, the flagship community initiative provides personal and professional mentoring to 41 talented ITE students, preparing them for future leadership roles in industry and society.
It was a distinct privilege to welcome back Ted Osius, Ambassador (ret.), a friend and former Googler, as a Guest-of-Honor. In his inspirational keynote, Ted shared how one of his own mentors, veteran ambassador Cameron Hume, instilled in him the courage and confidence to take calculated risks throughout his diplomatic career, enabling meaningful progress in international relations.
The remarkable transformation of the U.S.-Vietnam relationship over the past 50 years stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful risk-taking by key leaders like Ted. From his pioneering role establishing the U.S. consulate in Ho Chi Minh City in 1997 to his successful advocacy for stronger bilateral ties two decades later while serving as U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, Ted exemplified this spirit of courageous diplomacy – and his life and work are a poignant reminder of the profound, enduring impact one person can have on the world.

The U.S. Embassy Singapore exemplified the spirit of America this Fourth of July with an unforgettable celebration at Clifford Pier, the historic landing point where early settlers of all backgrounds first set foot in Singapore, fueled by a vision for a brighter future.
It was an honor to celebrate America's 248th birthday in the company of Singapore's Minister for Communications and Information Josephine Teo, who highlighted the strong and multifaceted bilateral relationship between the U.S. and Singapore, along with U.S. Ambassador Jonathan Kaplan, fellow governors from The American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (AmCham Singapore), the foreign diplomatic corps, and dear friends and colleagues from around the world.
Looking forward to commemorating the 20th anniversary of the U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (USSFTA) at the AmCham Singapore Regional Economic Conference from Aug 21-22, 2024. This groundbreaking agreement, the first of its kind between the U.S. and an Asia-Pacific country, has been instrumental in fostering thriving economic ties between our two nations, resulting in a tripling of trade.
