Hi everyone and welcome back to Whitespace, a monthly newsletter that highlights the new whitespace opportunities in current state to future state for the products, companies, industries and topics that impact our world.
Allow me to reintroduce myself: I’m Adam Wood - I create new products and ventures at Future State, my venture studio in Vancouver, Canada. I specialize in whitespace, generational products and the future. I wrote a book about Generational Products - it’s a good place to start if you’re new to my work.
Giant thank you to everyone for the frankly overwhelmingly positive response to the launch of Whitespace last month. I was expecting that a couple folks would read Volume 1 and the feedback would largely be pointing out my spelling mistakes despite rigorous proofreading.
Instead, Volume 1 has had several thousand people read it, dozens of super valuable emails with feedback and recommendations, thousands of new subscribers from over 50 countries in the world and countless people sharing it with their friends, family and professional networks.
Needless to say, I'm more than a little surprised and very grateful for everyone's interest and support. You'll see in Volume 2 a lot of changes that reflect the wonderful feedback and suggestions from subscribers.
I've had a few people ask why Whitespace is such a large newsletter. Admittedly, Whitespace is very much by design bigger than a regular newsletter. I loved reading the giant weekend newspaper growing up. It took hours and I always learned something new. My hope is that your reading experience is the same - there's a lot here, you can come back to Whitespace several times during the month and learn something new each time.
Volume 2 includes an interview with the amazing Mazen Jamal, who's a subject matter expert for air quality. We had so much fun talking about air quality that I've decided to add interviews as a regular feature in Whitespace.
Also, I've added a new section called "People Who Make The Things" which features amazing professionals who take part in making products that we all know and love. I'm excited to shine a light on many talented people whose incredible work results in shipping successful products. First up Jessica Turner, Céline Hervé, Nicholette Daniel.
Featured companies and people include: Spindrift Beverage Co, Inc. National Beverage Corp. PepsiCo, Great Wrap, Chess.com, Jo Khan, COMAC, Joey Cofone, State Farm, Verdant Robotics, TechBrew Robotics, the LEGO Group, adidas, Parley for the Oceans and more. Full list is in the comments section.
Needless to say, I covered a fair bit of ground in Volume 2.
