I had lunch with a friend today and he asked "What was the hardest part about starting your business?"
OPERATIONS. Operating our business and trying to implement systems to solve the problems we've faced is by far the biggest challenge we've had in the first few years.
We had a few resources to draw on but we mostly learned through trial and error, which wasn't the most efficient - or cheap - way to go about it.
For any small business owners out there struggling with Ops - I'd highly recommend the book "4 Dimensions of Execution" by Sean Covey, Chris McChesney, and Jim Huling. It helped us sketch out what processes needed to improve and how to improve them. Things definitely improved for us once we started those implementations.
Anybody else have book recommendations when it comes to improving operations?

This month marks the 3 years since I left my job in public accounting to start an escape room with a couple close buddies.
It hasn't been an easy road for any of us or our families, but we've learned a ton and as cliche as it may sound, none of us would change a thing.
We're three years into this adventure and already going down roads we never would have imagined when we started; franchising, opening sister brands/other new concepts, building 3 new locations at once.
