Police services and officers across India and esp. UP are doing great work however even one incident can break your trust in police officers who are on the ground -

Recently, while on visit to Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, a few of my relatives had an accident while travelling in e-rickshaw due to “rash and irresponsible driving” wherein brakes were suddenly applied - the driver saved his ass but all passengers got hurt majorly.

On visiting police station (Ram Janmabhoomi Thana Devendra Pandey as Prabhari Nirikshak), the police refused to lodge a FIR against the driver of e-rickshaw even after multiple requests and asked relatives to write an application on paper with details of what happened - it seems to me this application was just an excuse to not file a FIR and soothe/calm down affected relatives. Most importantly, the biggest crime was after asking for driver details, that driver didn’t even had a driving license - that would itself be the biggest factor to lodge a FIR and seize the vehicle. But police officials didn’t. Quite frankly, I feel police inaction in this at a place like Ayodhya was really “SHAMEFUL & PATHETIC & APPALLING”. Police also shared a contact to reach out to them later to know the status of investigation - however when called on that number, the above mentioned person said - “Ye case humare under nhi ata h. Apko jisko complaint krna h krlo”.

I am pretty sure they settled it internally “rafa dafa” with e-rickshaw driver & sent him home - the major issue is that the driver with no license is again on street and could cause a major accident or death to any other future visitor to Ram Temple.

Also, the relatives suggested that the incident was deliberate and driver was even laughing after the incident & they were targeted for their hindu identity.  This incident goes on to highlight not to trust police - of course not all are bad but this rot is definitely far from over. It is also being reported now on UP cm yogi portal due to police and authorities inaction in Ayodhya. Dated: 13 Febcc: IAS Vishal Singh
