MAJOR DECADE INCOMING FOR INDIAN FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY
If you are an Indian footwear designer, developer, business owner or an individual in this space, you might want to stick to the country instead of looking outside.
Why? 🤔
- SSIPL got acquired by Hindustan Food Limited
- Mochiko got acquired by Agilitas
- Aditya Birla Group on its way to enter the footwear market
- BIS implementation
- more & more Indian footwear brands coming up.
SSIPL was considered the best footwear manufacturer once upon a time making products for brands like Nike, Puma, Skechers etc. I remember visiting the factory back in 2018 while working at Fila. I was fascinated by elaborate setup and especially a pile of Nike molds destroyed (cut in 4 pieces) to avoid counterfeiting & protect the molds. They claimed spending around 35L INR just to destroy those molds with state of the art laser machines. Woof! The fact Hindustan Foods, FMCG brand acquiring a footwear factory is crazy.
Similarly, Mochiko - the current leader of footwear manufacturing in India got acquired by Agilitas. Agilitas is an initiative by the 'best in business' individuals who has an extensive plan for Indian market. Those who know, knows ;) This acquisition is just a tip of the iceberg.
BIS - Beaureu of Indian Standards are now mandatory for all footwear sold in India -just like the sales of gold. This means importing footwear from East Asian friends will be almost impossible in the coming days.
The signals are clearly showing how the race of Indian footwear industry is on a strong uptrend.
Keep your 👀 out, 👂 open & buckle up for the ride! 🚀
