Highlights
While I do not usually post every day, the data loss incident at Samsung has prompted me to share this update.
Yesterday I highlighted the potential risks associated with the use of ChatGPT for nefarious and criminal activities. Today's news from Samsung Semiconductor confirms these risks. The company allowed their staff to use ChatGPT for assistance in fixing errors in their source code, which resulted in the leakage of confidential information related to their fabrication performance, yields, and internal meeting notes.
In just 20 days, there were three instances of data loss at Samsung!
This incident is a clear reminder that open learning platform of ChatGPT can expose sensitive information. Companies and Users should always exercise controls when using powerful tools such as ChatGPT.
AI is becoming a new frontier for data leakages; instead, let us develop controls to harness AI to protect from data loss.
