Highlights
🛰 🌲 ☀ After observing and analyzing a network of 12 Malaysian #forests from space for @UNDP I had the pleasure to go on the ground with the local UNDP team who manages these forests.
We spent 4 days on the ground and endured some serious rain which was quite normal in this season of the year to verify the observations we had made using satellite imagery.
And the good news is that there were no surprises! What our remote analysis had come up with was verified on site.
One of the key findings we were able to confirm was that there was a great variety of different forests and that needed enhanced protection against urban expansion threats.
We could also confirm the potential of a significant number of those forests for permanently storing additional carbon for contributing to government climate plans and achievement of large companies' netzero targets.
Next steps of the project will be a presentation of the work achieved and perspectives to the government early 2024.
