I don't post often on LinkedIn but when I do, it's about bread.

The first picture below is my initial attempt at sourdough, in 2017. The second picture is from this week. So what's my point here? Well, while impatiently waiting for it to cool, I was thinking about how baking bread actually has some parallels to software development. The first thing you build/bake is going to be ugly. It's going to be misshapen, odd-looking, perhaps somewhat functional but certainly not at the point you want it to be. And then you try again, but you tweak something - perhaps the temperature? The number of dough folds? The initial rise time? And what do you get? Something ever-so-slightly better. Great, you notice some improvement so you continue to tweak it, one variable at a time, over the course of years until you finally achieve the outcome you want. Same thing with software development. It's an iterative process in which you take one thing that can be done better, and you simply do it better. Rinse and repeat. You don't bake a beautiful sourdough on your first attempt, nor do you build scalable, functional software on your first attempt as well. But one day, you take a step back and compare where you started and where you are now, and you'll see a world of difference.

SaaS. Sourdough as a Service.
