Alba L'Astorina is currently working at the Istituto per il Rilevamento Elettromagnetico dell’Ambiente (IREA) within the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) in Milan. She started her career with CNR in the 1990s in Naples, initially focusing on communication and scientific outreach for various research institutes. She collaborated as a journalist with the CNR Press Office. In 2006, Alba played a key role in establishing a research unit at CNR focusing on social studies in Science, Communication, and Education, under the coordination of IRRPS. This unit conducts investigations and experiments on science public communication and education, emphasizing the science-society relationship with a specific research line on public science communication models. Her interest lies in conducting surveys and experimenting with innovative communication models incorporating participatory methodologies. She also values promoting public debates on the evolving landscape of public communication within research institutions and its implications for the science-society relationship. Alba has been organizing Research and Communication Study Days since 2009 on theories and best practices in research institutions.
