Alberto Longo is a prominent figure in the motorsport industry, best known as the Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer of Formula E Holdings, the organization behind the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. He has held this position since the series was established in 2012, playing a crucial role in promoting electric vehicle racing and advancing sustainable practices within motorsport.
Background and Career
Longo graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the Universidad de Sevilla in Spain, where he completed his studies between 1992 and 1997. He began his professional career as an investment advisor at Santander Private Banking, where he worked for five years before transitioning into motorsport management.
In 2007, he became the Team Principal of the Barwa Addax Team in the GP2 series, where he successfully revitalized the team, leading it to multiple championship titles. His early involvement in motorsport also included commercializing Formula 1 television rights in Spain alongside Alejandro Agag, who is also a co-founder of Formula E.12
Contributions to Formula E
Longo's vision for Formula E was to create a platform that not only showcased thrilling racing but also emphasized environmental responsibility. Under his leadership, the championship has evolved significantly, moving from a format requiring two cars per race to more advanced vehicles capable of completing races on a single charge. This evolution has attracted numerous manufacturers and helped establish Formula E as a leading force in sustainable motorsport.23
Longo has articulated a commitment to community engagement and charitable contributions through Formula E, aiming to leave a positive legacy in host cities. His ambition is to elevate Formula E as the pinnacle of motorsport over the next decade by leveraging advancements in electric vehicle technology and expanding its global presence.4
Vision for the Future
Longo envisions Formula E becoming a reference point in motorsport for innovation, technology, sustainability, inclusion, and equality. He believes that despite the challenges faced during its inception, the series has proven its viability and potential for growth within the rapidly evolving landscape of electric vehicles.56
