Alessio Patalano

Professor of War & Strategy in East Asia at Department of War Studies, King’s College London

Alessio Patalano is a Professor of War & Strategy in East Asia at King's College London, specializing in Japanese naval history, strategy, and contemporary maritime issues in East Asia.

He leads the Japan Programme and research activities on East Asia and the Indo-Pacific at the Department's Centre for Grand Strategy.

Alessio is multilingual, fluent in Japanese, French, English, and Italian.

Aside from academia, he has been a Visiting Lecturer in Naval Strategy and East Asian Security at the Italian Naval War College in Venice since 2006.

His educational background includes a PhD and MA in War Studies from King's College London, a DEA from Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, and a BA from the University of Naples.

He also has experience as a researcher and lecturer at various institutions in Japan and the UK.

Alessio has a passion for sports like swimming, martial arts, tennis, and volleyball, as well as music, having played the bass guitar for almost twenty years.
