A couple years back, I woke up to an abandoned Kia still running and parked on our street when we lived in East Austin.
Our security camera footage showed what looked like 10-12 teens pulling up at 4am in three stolen cars, dumping everything from the cars into the street, looking into parked cars (ours included), partying a bit, then driving off.
The next morning I called the cops to get the Kia towed. When the officer showed up, I showed him the video and asked if he had an idea of who'd done it.
Without hesitation he said yes. It’s the same group of teens who keep breaking into and stealing cars. Every time they get arrested, the DA's office drops the charges and lets them go.
Austin could solve a big chunk of its crime problem if it got rid of Jose Garza and just prosecuted crime.
