In a few hours I’ll turn in my badge, officially closing this Stripe chapter of my career. It's an experience I will forever be grateful for: the autonomy to approach the corp strat role in a novel way, the opportunity to work across wide swathes of a scaled business, the privilege of building and working with the highest performing team I've ever been a part of, but most importantly, the good fortune to build relationships across the company with a wide ranging set of the most inspiring people I've ever worked with. These are relationships that I will cherish forever.

So why did I ultimately decide to leave such a phenomenal role? Anyone who's been reading my weekly personal reflections (https://lnkd.in/gD362mcH) for the past few months will know I've had AI on the brain. I think that AI is not a sustaining innovation but a disruptive one, with the potential to usher in a totally new technical paradigm. A good model of what such a paradigm shift might feel like is the creation of the browser and the web in the early 90’s. These shifts often feel amorphous and alien as they are happening, a sentiment captured well in the notes Tim Berners-Lee’s boss scribbled in the margin of his original proposal for what would become the web in 1989: “Vague but exciting…”

I've had a whisper in my ear for the past few months that it was my destiny to take a swing at catalyzing a reimagined web for the era where you can take AI for granted. To flip the current privacy paradigm on its head and create an open ecosystem that unleashes a new type of malleable, self-assembling experience that redefines what we imagine software can be. That whisper grew into a shout that I simply couldn't ignore any longer.

I'm excited to be embarking on this journey with my long-time intellectual collaborator Bernhard Seefeld. For the past decade we’ve been working together in various capacities, accumulating the experiences and knowhow that will guide us on this trek. I know the road ahead is uncharted and will have many challenges, but I’m brimming with enthusiasm to tackle something so meaningful. It's the support and encouragement of everyone in my network that has given me the strength to attempt something outside of my comfort zone--thank you! I’ll be sharing updates on Medium (https://lnkd.in/gxs3Bcyk) if you want to follow along!
