Highlights

Next week is my last week at Cloudflare, Inc. Starting March 3rd, I'll be joining Khan Academy, working remotely from my house outside of Austin, TX.

There are reasons why I choose to live outside of the city center, and for years now my commute has gotten worse and worse. It's to the point now where, on average, my commute is between 1h15m to 1h30m each way.

I believe that we're in the process of a remote work revolution. By placing your offices in the middle of a crowded and expensive downtown and requiring people on-site, you're limiting your talent pool to those that are within a few miles of the office, or those that are willing to endure long commutes; and people with long commutes are statistically less happy and less productive.

Khan Academy is offering me the opportunity to reduce my commute and to align my work with my values. While I'm sad to leave the team I've helped build, I'm excited to finally have the freedom to involve myself more in my son's school and activities, to ride my bike before work, to have productive weekdays; which are all difficult with a 2h30m+ commute. And with Khan Academy, I'll know that I'm using my skills and experience to directly impact the lives of millions of people.

Thanks again folks, and I wish y'all the best in the future.
