Screams Before Silence Premier, 4/25/24
In December 2023, our team had the privilege of working with Sheryl Sandberg on an impactful campaign, calling upon women's rights organizations, including the UN women, to speak out against Hamas' use of sexual violence against Israeli's on (and since) October 7th.
While there is irrefutable evidence that Hamas weaponized sexual violence and genital mutilation throughout this war, too many human rights organizations choose to stay silent. A question I receive frequently on this topic is: "I know r*pe is bad. But, in the scheme of things, isn't it worse that so many people were brutally KILLED by Hamas?" This isn't about arguing the lesser of two evils. This is about the last 30+ years of women's organizations working together to protect women's bodies in times of war, only today to ignore/justify/deny the sexual violence and genital mutilation that occurred against Israeli women.
This is about women's organizations taking their mission statements from unconditional to conditional, excluding Jewish women from their human rights efforts. Since our campaign, Sheryl has been working tirelessly on an extremely impactful film: Screams Before Silence. The film is comprised of raw conversations with victims of Hamas' sexual brutality who survived to tell the tale. Most of Hamas' victims, however, are no longer with us to share their stories. Screams before Silence premiered on April 25th. We watched together in sheer horror, experiencing a fraction of the harsh reality that too many innocent women faced on 10/7, and since then, in Hamas captivity. Rape is never resistance.
