"A vegan riding an electric bike is almost certainly the most carbon efficient form of transport ever invented"

I love learning new things that challenge or even change my opinions.

𝗧𝗟;𝗗𝗥 Batteries and motors are more carbon efficient at generating forward motion than the average food eating human.

I had always ignorantly assumed that electric assist bikes were less environmentally friendly than traditional purely human powered bikes.

In this excellent video by Simon Clark he takes an in depth look at the full carbon impact of electric bikes: https://lnkd.in/d8NzpBmu

Even taking into account the environmental impact of producing the battery and motor, the an electric assist bike is likely to be more carbon efficient over it's lifetime than a bike powered completely by it's rider. The Human body is more multi-purpose and worse at converting energy (in the form of food) into forward motion than a system designed specifically for that purpose.

However you're unlikely see me switching anytime soon — although I'm definitely curious about becoming vegetarian or even vegan 🥦 🥕
