Highlights
I spend a lot of time speaking with elected officials (governors, mayors, members of Congress, and state legislators) in addition to leaders of large government agencies. There is widespread fear of the unexpected downstream consequences with the use of AI, specifically data ownership/abuse/leaks, etc...That, plus the lack of profit motive as the US government is a default alive Fortune 1 company largely outside of market forces, means the adoption curve is likely pushed far out for them. Most of the animating activity I'm seeing right now is FOMO. In hype cycles, it's often hard to discern real enduring use cases from elegant post hoc rationalizations to "keep up." This is not dissimilar from the conversations I was having with the same people about crypto 8 years ago. #ai #govtech #government #fomo #usinghashtagsissilly
Every founder's pathway to starting a company is different - for me, it came from framing democracy as a service delivery business and evaluating its performance through that lens. The challenge presented in this data is a distillation of what I saw firsthand that bothered me so much I decided to dedicate my life to solving it. We can do better than this - never forget, government is the part we do together.
