Highlights
This is an interesting move by another US law firm, which might indicate to some that search and referral pricing is converging. However, price is not the same as value. Whilst referrals can expedite hiring and reduce short-term costs, they often inadvertently perpetuate biases. This can lead to homogeneity and limited diversity within an organization. Furthermore, talent convergence often stifles innovation and leads to a reduction in company revenue over time. As a search professional, it's our job to balance out an echo chamber and prevent a narrowing of perspectives. We challenge biases to ensure companies invest in sustainable growth and widen their competitive advantage in a world that feels increasingly short-sighted. I believe the role of all experienced external advisors is growing in importance across all industries; without human perspective, our increasing dependency on algorithmic technologies can limit our exposure to diverse ideas and people. U.S. Federal Trade Commission bans noncompete agreements The FTC estimates about 30 million people, or one in five American workers, are bound by noncompetes. Tuesday's ruling could lead to increased wages (nearly $300 billion pa) by encouraging people to swap jobs freely. The ban, which will take effect later this year, carves out an exception for existing noncompetes that companies have given their senior executives, on the grounds that these agreements are more likely to have been negotiated. The Chamber of Commerce announced it would sue the regulator, arguing the agency lacked constitutional and statutory authority to enact the rule, calling it a “blatant power grab” that “sets a dangerous precedent for government micromanagement of business”.
