I just completed a week-long course in person on Disruptive Innovation at Harvard Business School and I am inspired by being in a challenging learning environment and being able to connect with brilliant minds.

I have been told by many I am an innovator, and I wasn't quite sure what that meant, so I went to investigate.

Although I knew my company Glam Seamless Hair Extensions disrupted the extension market, I have a clear understanding how we captured the market. Timing and problem solving when it comes to starting a business is key. A passion and understanding of the market you are service is also helpful.

Startups have an advantage that corporations don't naturally possess, room for exploration and testing. If you work in a corporate environment or your business has grown to this size it's important to keep innovation alive within the organization to keep growing.

If you've always dreamed of starting a business, focus on how you can innovate!

As Tony Robbins says: Business is simply marketing and innovation!

One key take away that I learned is there's always room to create a new brand, you just have to find the opportunity and the timing:

“The reason why it is so difficult for existing firms to capitalize on disruptive innovations is that their processes and their business model that make them good at the existing business actually make them bad at competing for the disruption.” Clayton Christensen

This past weekend I got the opportunity to speak on a panel at the 3rd annual Entreprenista Founders Weekend Retreat about selling your business. It was my first time attending the conference and I was blown away by this powerful community.

The entire vibe was inspirational, uplifting, and diverse! I was impressed by the community that Stephanie Cartin and Courtney Spritzer have built.

Women gathered to share, uplift, and support one another in business! I made so many connections and I was very moved by all of the gems of information each woman shared and the collaboration that was occurring.

I got to meet amazing women like Patrice Poltzer who is a Storyteller and Producer who recently moved to Portugal! Other business owners with great brands such as Pallavi Pande who created a really amazing sustainable plate company! As well as Rhonda Singer with some great financial information.

I also got to spend some quality time with my sister Kerri McDonald the Founder and CEO of The Greenhouse, an email growth agency.

I am really looking forward to next year, there is something very special about this community and I am very happy to be part of it!
