Highlights
It was great to be yesterday at the 8th edition of Growth Hacker Talks. I can definitely say I learned a whole bunch of new things about story-telling!
Thanks once again to the inspiring speakers, Spencer Waldron, Adrie Smith and Robin Roosdorp, and obviously to the resourceful organisers Pascal van Steen, Gino Taselaar and Justin Plagis who managed to put this great event together.
The three most important lessons were, for me:
- Embrace who you are as a company.
- Put the customer at the forefront of your story, not your product.
- Respect the platform when telling your stories.
Knowing how powerful story-telling is and how many different compelling means to help customers make a decision, I feel it’s our responsibility, as brand developers/ content creators/ marketeers to use story-telling as a force for change.

Story-telling is such an important tool when building a strong brand.
People aren't really interested in your product or service, they are interested in how they are getting their own problems solved. Thus, are you telling people how your product or service is getting their problem fixed?
To test and quantify the true power of story-telling, Rob Walker and Joshua Glenn set up a scientific experiment, called Significant Objects, in which they bought 100 random objects off eBay, hired 100 creative writers to make up stories for each of them and sold them back with a 2.700% increase in final profit.
