Last week’s post about sitting next to a gifted career coach on a plane got me thinking about how we meet people. We can put a lot of effort into trying to secure introductions to specific folks, yet it’s the connections I’ve made in more organic ways that have led to meaningful relationships.

Case in point: when we found a beehive on our property, I turned to my clients at FRIENDS OF GRIFFITH PARK. One of the beekeepers they recommended — yes, there were multiple! — turned out to be a neighbor. In working with him, not only did we learn a bit about beekeeping and hive transfers, but we began to feel more connected to our community, and we continue to deepen those connections. It was a completely unexpected gift, born out of my relationship with my client.

Who have you met in an unanticipated way and what do you appreciate about that relationship? 🐝

📣 PSA: You never know who you might be sitting next to on a plane. 📣

One Christmas Eve, my seatmate was Sara Thompson, Ph.D. We clicked and found ourselves talking about work, life, inspiration, and cross-country moves. I learned she’s a coach and leadership consultant who’s made many brave moves, cross-country and more.

Six months later, I found myself without a job and decided to participate in one of Sara’s signature group programs — Be Bold: Live and Lead on Purpose. I was hungry for a learning and development experience centering living and leading with authenticity, and Sara’s was truly nourishing.

Her 1:1 coaching and group facilitation helped me unearth some of my natural gifts and planted seeds that led to my founding Telescope Advising.

IMHO, these are just a few of Sara’s gifts:

1️⃣ A deep and skillful listener, Sara masterfully gets to the heart of the matter, which enabled me to see things more clearly and take steps to move forward differently.

2️⃣ Sara has a robust toolbox. She customized guidance and resources as each of us pursued our different goals. Some of her most effective offerings were those that guided me to strip away and simplify.

3️⃣ Life is rarely as compartmentalized as we might want it to be. With Sara’s support, I brought many aspects of my life into Be Bold, which helped me be wholly committed to the experience.

Sara’s approach and values shine through on her SET Leadership website. I invite you to take a look and give me a shout anytime to learn more!
