When I share my new venture in veterinary care, I often hear the same complaints. It is impossible to get an appointment with my vet and vet care is so expensive. It is time to reframe the conversation! There is a shortage of veterinary professionals in this country because historically they have been underpaid and underappreciated. That is why you cannot get an appointment. People are leaving the profession in droves!
Vet School is just as demanding as medical school, yet the mean salary for physicians is twice as much as veterinarians. We say that pets are members of the family, yet we spend significantly more on healthcare for the humans in our family vs. our pets. The average per capita health care spending is about $3,700/yr for a child, $7,200/yr for adults and $19,000 per year for seniors. On average pet owners spend $700 - $1500 per year at the vet. That is $58 - $125 per month to keep a precious member of your family healthy and happy. Let’s reframe the conversation so that our veterinary teams stop feeling guilty for recommending the best possible care for your pet. Let’s talk about the value they bring and the respect they deserve.
Parker & Ace, we want to celebrate the strong connections between pets and people and make people fall in love with veterinary care all over again! #vetmed #fortheloveofpets #veterinary #vettechs
