Alexis Mitchell is a dedicated individual with a strong background in animal welfare and a passion for serving the community by promoting compassion towards all living beings. With a B.A. in Criminology from the University of Maryland, Alexis began her professional journey at Booz Allen Hamilton, where she developed an animal emergency preparedness toolkit for the Department of Homeland Security's Citizen Corps. Transitioning to the field of animal welfare, she played a crucial role in establishing the Baltimore City Animal Response Team (BCART) and drafting animal preparedness and response plans for Baltimore City. Alexis furthered her expertise by attending animal sheltering workshops and acquiring certificates in animal emergency preparedness and response through FEMA. Moreover, she graduated from the veterinary technology program at Northern Virginia Community College, becoming a licensed veterinary technician. Alexis has since contributed her skills to various animal clinics and welfare organizations, including the ASPCA's Cruelty Recovery Center. Beyond her professional commitments, Alexis founded NamaSpay, a project uniting yoga and animal welfare to promote spaying/neutering as a solution to reduce the homeless animal population. She is also involved in the establishment of Gentle Acres Animal Haven, a sanctuary for animals impacted by industrial factory farming, emphasizing compassion for all sentient beings.
