Today, Medici Land Governance joins Africans all around the world in celebrating. Africa Day, which is observed annually to commemorate the founding of what is now known as the African Union. Africa Day is an opportunity to celebrate the continent’s socio-economic achievements and this year’s theme is Strengthening Resilience in Nutrition and Food Security on the African Continent.
In Africa, MLG is involved in three major projects in countries that have been demonstrated to be productive and positive when it comes to secure land tenure. This is critical for making progress toward achieving Sustainable Development Goals, especially in ending poverty and achieving gender equality.
MLG is currently implementing the Systematic Land Titling Project in Zambia in collaboration with the Ministry of Land and Natural Resources (MLNR). The project is a nationwide effort to provide four million certificates of title to Zambian landowners located on state land.
In Rwanda, MLG successfully launched the country’s first-ever web-based paperless land transaction application (Ubutaka). The main benefit of the paperless transaction is that it reduces land transaction time from five to two business days in Rwanda while significantly lowering costs.
In Monrovia, Liberia, MLG collaborated with the Liberia Land Authority (LLA) to implement a systematic land titling pilot project. Liberia has enacted fhe Land Rights Act to promote access to land rights and land tenure security especially for women, youth and customary communities to become owners of their land and beneficiaries.
All of us at Medici Land Governance are excited to be a part of these groundbreaking projects, which are designed to honor the themes and origins that lead to celebrating Africa Day every year. #africa #africaday2022 #africafreedomday
