💡 ACCESSIBILITY 💡
Layout and design 🖋️
Accessibility can be enhanced through text and colour, but also simply through how you’ve laid everything out on the page. Here are some points to bear in mind: • Avoid underlining, except for links. • All text should be the same orientation on the page. • Space between columns of text should be large enough to be distinct. • Only use tables for data. Keep tables simple; avoid splitting or merging cells. • Avoid footnotes where possible; provide explanations inline instead. • Make sure link text clearly describes where the link goes. • Do not use aspects like colour or shape alone to show meaning.

I hope this is helpful, but do shoot me a comment if I’ve missed anything.
Remote work isn’t a holiday; it’s still work.
But how do you balance making the most of being away from home while still giving work your full attention?
For me, it’s all about routine and good time management.
When I’m away from home, I try not to shift my usual daily routine too much. I keep a basic 9am-5pm working pattern wherever I am, but that doesn’t mean every day looks the same.
For example, one of the things I love so much about Cape Town is that the city wakes up early and many people are active and out and about first thing in the morning.
When I’m here, I generally get up around the same time as I would at home, but as the weather is so good and the city wakes up early, I can join a wildlife spotting kayak trip or a hike before 7am. I also enjoy going for an early morning run along the promenade – although it can be pretty busy there around 7am!
I’m back in my apartment and at my desk before 10am. As South Africa is two hours ahead of the UK at the moment, that means I’m online just as everyone back home is getting started for the day.
Making the most of the time difference like this means I can enjoy the amazing scenery and outdoors life that Cape Town has to offer without any impact on my team or our clients.
What are your tips for getting the most from your day?
