I often do these little brain dump video diaries when my head is full. I never share them, I guess because they are vulnerable and most certainly not perfect.

But I am going to try and be brave 😅

I took a risk today. There is such a fine line between missing the mark in a session and having something land - especially when working with teenagers 😮‍💨

With 2 sessions with this school, I wanted to test the boundaries of what I knew ‘should’ be discussed in a nutrition session with 12/13yo’s vs what I would have wanted to truly understand better at that age: That what your body looks like, or what foods you choose, doesn’t get to define your worth or value.

These kids aren’t going to fall off their chair in surprise if I was to spend the session telling them to eat more veggies because they are healthy. If we did what we know we ‘should’ we would all be masters in health and well-being.

Instead, we were detectives today in exploring what was stopping us from actioning the things we wanted to do more of. Focusing on awareness and noticing, while also involving a whole lot of self compassion along the way.

As with any session that’s new, there were mistakes and imperfections - things I would definitely change or improve when I deliver to a cohort like this again. But I wouldn’t make any progress if I had just done the accepted food science chat, so I am taking those mistakes as opportunities.

So grateful to this school for investing in time with us, working alongside teens (not just in sports) is a huge passion of ours - so please help us have more impact by reaching out to us if you work in a school; or please share our deets with your kid’s school if you feel it is a good fit ❤️

Maybe one small step for most, but it feels like one giant leap for little ol us to enter this chat with the wider nutrition audience at the Dietitians Australia conference.

As I sat down with Sports Dietitians Australia colleagues last night, one topic was in the benefits of being in a small team and the speed and agility that brings in enabling fast reflections, learning and innovation.

It is common for larger organisations to shy away from the ‘risk’ of tech startups, but we have an ability to listen, design and build that is simply not possible in larger units. A value within sports, health and nutrition that I personally feel is so worth that risk.

I am so freaking proud of all we have designed and determined from listening and learning the last few years. It has meant we pulled a string to end up creating: 📲 an innovative tech enabled model of care for our athletes and clients; ⚙️ a complete shift in how we now approach very different ‘foundations’ in nutrition; 📈 a scalable way of monitoring and measuring opportunity and impact that removes the need for systematic weight or body comp checks; ❤️ an evidence informed and data supported change in culture within the sporting environments we work within; 🏘️ an overwhelmingly awesome community of Dietitian’s from all over the world who are elevating their practice, value and connection

If you happen to be at the conference, please come say hey 👋!

& if you can’t make it, but would like to hear more on either of these topics (for your individual or organisation needs) then let us know - we will host a seminar if interest is there!

Also, special mention to our resident Compeat Academy lead Kirsten Swan who I am presenting for today, and for our previous fearless Academy leader Demi Patterson who originally submitted the Academy presentation proposal but has since headed off to another role ❤️
