I was talking to my dad about how challenging it is to do business these days. His response surprised me

"Are you kidding me?" he said. "When I started my tax firm in the 1980s, I'd buy all the newspapers on my way to the office and spend hours reading them. That was the only way to generate leads. We relied entirely on relationships and walk-ins."

He made me realize something: today, we have so many opportunities. Social media, Google Ads, podcasts, webinars, LinkedIn - we can generate leads in ways they never imagined.

But then I thought about it more. "That's true," I said, "but with all these platforms, we also have a lot more distractions. You guys didn't have to deal with that."

My dad agreed. "That's your real challenge," he said. "We had fewer opportunities, but when we got one, we could really focus on it."

It got me thinking: the key difference isn't just about having more opportunities, it's about how we handle them. With so many options, how do we choose the one or two things that are truly important and dive deep into them?

That's when it becomes clear - it's not about being on every platform or trying every strategy. It's about picking the right ones and committing to them fully. Only then can we really benefit from all these new opportunities

So here's a question for all of us: Out of all the ideas and strategies you're considering right now, which one or two could transform your business if you gave them your full attention?

Let's focus on depth over breadth. In this age of endless possibilities, that might be our most powerful tool.

How do you stay focused amidst all the noise?

From selling bottled water to investing in Dropbox and Honey, here’s how Saeed Amidi turned $150,000 into $75 million.

Imagine losing everything—home, legacy, security—and ending up in a foreign land with just the clothes on your back and an unbreakable spirit. This is not a fictional tale but the true story of a man who shaped global technology and entrepreneurship.

1979: The Amidi family, once leaders of a major Iranian conglomerate, fled to the U.S. amid political chaos, arriving with nothing but just determination.

1980s: Starting from scratch, the family opened Medallion Rug Gallery in Palo Alto. At 18, Saeed sold bottled water in college to support their new business.

1986: The Amidis bought a small office building at 165 University Avenue in Palo Alto, unknowingly laying the foundation for their future empire.

1990s-2000s: Saeed rented space to promising startups, turning the building into a launchpad for early-stage Logitech, Google, and PayPal.

2006: Recognizing the value of nurturing startups, Saeed left the family business to launch Plug and Play Tech Center, formalizing his support for emerging companies.  During its growth, he refined his investment strategy, balancing risk with potential.

His approach paid off through savvy early-stage investments, including a $50,000 stake in Honey that yielded $40 million and a $100,000 Dropbox investment that grew to $35 million.

These numbers reflect Saeed's skill in spotting potential and taking calculated risks. His story shows that true entrepreneurial success comes from resilience, fostering communities, and positioning yourself where talent meets opportunity.

As entrepreneurs, let’s learn from Saeed’s journey to stay adaptable and spot potential.  Have you ever turned a setback into a comeback?
