As UK Fintech Week commences, I’m setting aside the usual British modesty to proudly trumpet the success of our fintech ecosystem!   Having spent the lion's share of my career entrenched in fintech (much in London), I’ve seen first-hand the UK grow and evolve into the dynamic ecosystem that exists today! So, in the spirit of un-modest bragging, here are a few impressive UK fintech facts to kickstart proceedings!   💂‍♂️ Per capita, $135.16 is invested in fintech in the UK (equivalent to around 0.29% of total GDP). These figures position the UK as second only to Singapore globally. ☕ Over the past 5 years (2019-2023), $37.8 billion of VC funding has been deployed into UK fintech companies. ☔ The UK remains the top destination in Europe for fintech investment, securing more capital than the next 28 European countries combined.   I’m excited to dive into this and more at Innovate Finance’s Global Summit tomorrow. Alongside Nicole Anderson, Phil Vidler, and Stephanie Heller (Galantine), with moderation from Shawn Atkinson I’ll be discussing the role that Venture Capital has to play in driving fintech innovation.   Want to see our portfolio in action? Don’t miss Anand Sambasivan from PrimaryBid and Andrew Evans from Smart Pension, who are both also speaking!   Sources: (1) FT Advisor, Innovate Finance, World Bank (2) Dealroom (3) Innovate Finance
