Yesterday was the 10th Anniversary of my Mother's passing and I was excited to have serendipitously been asked to share one of my financial workshops for college students on Supporting Family & Long-term Planning during College with the amazing First Gen TCU students led by Dr. Cynthia Montes.

My college journey was an "our" story with my Mother, sister/sister-in-law and brothers. First Gen students have to be the teacher and the student for their parents/guardians, siblings and grandparents. The journey is hard, but breaking generational barriers always is work. Sometimes financial aid is for the whole family and that's ok. We talked about financial boundaries and surprise expenses, budgets, credit cards, as well as my favorite subject TAXES and Roth IRAs.

I met some amazing resilient students today who are going through tough times, couch surfing, sleeping on the floor and memorizing the local food bank hours. I saw my reflection in them, I was on food stamps in college, we do the things we need to do to get through the tough times, but we always keep going. I am not concerned about this generation, they are tenacious and loving. They will make this world a better place. We are here to help them.

This drove home the work we are doing at CoAct North Texas to bring awareness that even at the prestigious universities to our two year colleges, students are still struggling and that we can all help.

Thank you Dra. Montes and all of your amazing staff for not only being there for your students, but offering real support and solutions.

Last night, April 29th, was wonderful spending time with UnidosUS (@WeAreUnidosUS) and Toyota North America at Legacy West for the Corporate Board of Directors Happy Hour. Hispanic Women's Network of Texas - Arlington Chapter members Florence Salazar-Bruner and Stacey G. and I had a wonderful conversation with CEO Janet Murguía. Hispanic Women's Network of Texas (HWNT) has been an affiliate member for a number of years and will be at the national conference in Las Vegas!

Additionally, it is always lovely to run into servant leaders in DFW including Dora Zapata, Roy Lopez, Ray Casas and so many others.
