Job Description: The Health Policy Manger will work closely with the Vice President and Senior Director of the Health Initiatives team to perform the following activities:
-Work in conjunction with the Health Initiatives team to develop, manage and evaluate CSS’s health advocacy and policy activities and initiatives.
-Write and disseminate issue briefs, testimony, memoranda, white papers, reports, and PowerPoint presentations on various health policy issues.
-Develop and identify policy priorities for the Health Care for All New York and #EndMedicalDebt campaigns.
-Analyze significant developments and trends in state and federal health care reform, insurance coverage and medical debt issues. Administer health policy grants, including the preparation of proposals and written reports to funders.
-Facilitate substantive meetings and calls with coalition partners, including coordinating strategic planning.
-Engage in communications activities targeted at traditional media and social media promotion and messaging, member communications, and coalition administration, including hosting the HCFANY.org website, blog, and social media accounts and managing the HCFANY story banking database.
-Conduct administrative and legislative advocacy, participate in, and occasionally coordinate, public forums, conferences, and legislative advocacy days.
-Participate in other activities and perform other duties as may be required.

All of our hospitals are non-profits, but they still use extraordinary collections actions against patients who can't pay such as collections, lawsuits, placing liens on patients homes, and garnishing their wages. The New York State legislature passed a bill that would prohibit medical providers from placing liens or garnishing wages, but it hasn't been signed by the governor.
