Amarildo da Cruz Fernandes is an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ / POLI), specializing in Production Engineering and Environmental Engineering courses.

His research focuses on complex systems and the interplay between strategy, processes, sustainability, and decision-making within companies, industrial sectors, and society.

Amarildo also leads two postgraduate courses (MBA) on Oil and Gas Economics and Production and Service Management with a Lean Approach.

As a consultant and researcher, he leverages systemic thinking to tackle intricate problems and has actively contributed as a reviewer for various scientific journals.

He is a member of the System Dynamics Society, which is dedicated to fostering a community interested in System Dynamics.

Amarildo Fernandes holds a Doutorado in Production Engineering with a focus on Strategic Management and Decision-making from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

Additionally, he pursued a Mestrado in Production Engineering with a specialization in Quality Engineering and Management at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul.

He also completed his Graduação in Mining Engineering, focusing on Open-pit and Underground Mining at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS).

In his professional journey, Amarildo previously worked as an Engenheiro de Minas at Carbonífera Criciúma S/A and as a Projetista de Estruturas (Civil) at Fridman e Azambuja.
