I'm incredibly excited to share that OpenAI is launching an early research preview of OpenAI o1, a new series of reasoning models designed to tackle complex problems. This marks a significant advancement in AI, as these models spend more time "thinking" before they respond, allowing them to solve harder problems than previous models and better adhere to safety and alignment guidelines.
In Daniel Kahneman's "Thinking, Fast and Slow," he describes two modes of thought: System 1, our fast, intuitive, and automatic thinking, and System 2, our slow, deliberate, and analytical reasoning. Today, OpenAI is taking a significant step toward emulating System 2 thinking with this early research preview.
