Tuesday morning, standing at Fort McHenry, my gaze fell upon the twisted wreckage of Key Bridge after its tragic collapse. The familiar view, once a symbol of stability and routine, now lay in disarray before me. As I stood there, the scene felt surreal, as if a piece of the world I knew had been abruptly snatched away. I spoke to fellow neighbors and friends as we all recounted the numerous times we have traveled that same path.

In that moment, my heart ached for the families who had lost their loved ones. Their lives forever changed, their worlds shattered in an instant. It served as a stark reminder of the fragility of life, a reminder that each day is a precious gift not to be taken for granted.

I am grateful to the leaders of our state and city for their swift and coordinated response in the face of such devastation. Their efforts, alongside the tireless work of the first responders, have been nothing short of heroic. They have provided comfort, assistance, and a sense of hope to those affected, working tirelessly to save lives and bring closure to grieving families.

Let us all take a moment to hold our loved ones close, to give thanks for each day we are given, and to cherish the moments we have together. Life is precious, and we must make the most of every moment we are given. #Baltimore #KeyBridge

Today, on National Medal of Honor Day, I had the privilege of spending the morning at the USO Warrior & Family Center at Fort Belvoir with two Medal of Honor Recipients, Staff Sergeant Giunta and Master Sergeant Plumlee.

Their stories were not only inspiring (and at times very funny) but also highlighted the sacrifices made by these brave individuals and those who have received this prestigious award. With only 63 living MOH Recipients, their courage and dedication to our country serve as a testament to their heroism. I am grateful for their service and the opportunity to learn from them. Let us always honor and remember their incredible valor.
