What happens when an army of 6-16 year olds turn up at their parents’ workplace ? A planned Diwali formal get together becomes an impromptu, rocking party with popcorn, candy floss, face paint and everything that goes with it. Our ‘get your kids to work’ day was the perfect way to usher in the Festival of Lights - the whole atmosphere was sparkling ✨. The energetic, curious and completely unrestrained army had us on our toes ( and sometimes at our wits end!) for a few exhilarating hours… at the end of which, I felt - it’s truly time to proudly say that the R in ‘HR’ is not the unkindly used ‘rangoli’ … it is ‘relationships’ … ones that we build at the workplace … the ones that get amplified when our kids turn up at the workplace and we proudly show them around - and they say - I love you mom ( or dad) . No so called engagement activity can ever accomplish what just getting the kids to the workplace can deliver !

‘We call families, kids, moms to office often. What about dads ? Why shouldn’t we do something exclusively for them? After all, our dads helped us so much get to where we are. Why can’t we call dads of folks who work with us? ‘ - a simple conversation coupled with the Yokohama Off-Highway Tires spirit of ownership, agility and collaboration inspired us to call the big daddies of our lovely colleagues at our Mumbai office. And what an evening it was ! Pride, joy, enthusiasm, affection and tears of joy is what we all experienced. As our dads worked through our work areas and we explained what we all do, we were seriously worried… the questions they asked made us wonder… maybe they would make better hires than we do 🙃. It was an evening that made us feel thankful, blessed and reinforced to us - the superheroes who don’t wear capes … are our dads ! And they in the true sense are like vehicle tires too - the best cars on the most amazing roads count for nothing if you don’t have the right tires. Thank you dads !
