Amjad Abu-Rmileh

Chief Data Scientist at Data Science Group

Amjad Abu-Rmileh is a machine learning and data science researcher with a background in biomedical and automation engineering. He holds a BSc, MSc, and PhD, and has expertise in biological signal processing, machine learning, estimation theory, system identification, and advanced control algorithms. Currently, Amjad is actively involved in machine (deep) learning and data science projects in health, finance, and industry 4.0 within the Data Science Group. Previously, he has worked with the recommendation research team at Microsoft. When not researching, Amjad also enjoys teaching. In his post-doctoral work at Ben-Gurion University, he focused on designing innovative 'co-adaptive' brain-computer interface systems and signal processing techniques for decoding brain activity during movement. Amjad's PhD research revolved around developing modeling and control strategies for the 'artificial pancreas' to regulate blood glucose levels in diabetic patients. His contributions in these areas have been recognized through publications in reputable scientific journals. His areas of interest include machine (deep) learning, brain-computer interfaces, neural activity decoding, signal processing, system identification, recommendation systems, and closed-loop model-based control algorithms, particularly in biomedical systems. Amjad frequently utilizes tools like Python (Scikit-learn, Pandas, Keras, Tensorflow) and Matlab for tasks such as supervised/unsupervised machine learning, digital filtering, frequency domain analysis, model-based signal analysis, Kalman filtering, and control algorithms for applications in recommendation systems, brain-computer interfaces, biological signal processing, and time-varying dynamics. Some of his notable projects involve deep learning for recommendation systems, basket completion using machine learning and statistics, brain-computer interfaces for robotic control, and closed-loop artificial pancreas for blood glucose control in diabetes patients.
