THE PRODIGAL SPRINTER SERIES There have been a few times when a sporting performance just compels you to write, share, and wax eloquent about the athlete. Last night, Femke Bol anchored the Netherlands to gold in the 4X400 mixed relay, reeling in three other world-class athletes in an incredible display of athleticism. Ironically, the same Femke Bol fell in the anchor leg of the same race at the World Championships a few months ago while she was leading (but that’s another story).
I have been following Femke Bol keenly ever since she was an upcoming athlete who finished behind the mercurial Sydney McLaughlin and Dalilah Muhammad at the Tokyo Olympics. Since then, she has always been in the shadow of the incredible Sydney, who is in a league of her own. Femke is akin to a 2008-10 Djokovic, who was great but overshadowed by the greatness of Fedal.
