The Midland Metropolitan University Hospital will deliver a unique model of care to improve health in the local area, with patients and their families from Sandwell and West Birmingham set to benefit. The new hospital will offer maternity, children’s, and inpatient adult services to half a million people to help improve the health outcomes of the local population. We’re committed to changing the direction of peoples’ lives through education, training, creativity, and new ways of thinking. And to do this, we need your help to make it #morethanahospital.
What do we mean by art? In 2023, patients, staff and visitors of Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust helped create our arts manifesto: a set of promises and guiding principles for our arts programme. We believe art takes various forms, such as dance, photography, music, textiles, film, gardening, and poetry. Our definition of art entails the collaboration of artists and communities to create meaningful experiences.
Our new hospital includes an 88-metre gallery space in the Winter Garden called The People’s Gallery. We are recruiting enthusiastic and committed volunteers to be the public face of our gallery. This training programme is your gateway to becoming a creative health and wellbeing volunteer, making a positive impact through art and creativity.
As part of the sessions, we'd love for you to share the arts and crafts you create. In preparation, kindly share with us the materials you use by 1st December so that we can ensure we have the necessary resources for the session.
