Highlights
On a snowy day in Philadelphia, dbt Labs welcomed into Public Preview three key functionalities to dbt Explorer:
- Model Performance Analysis: Should that model really take that long?
- Project Recommendations: Are you truly using dbt best practices?
- Column-level Lineage: Know your dependencies down to the last column
Some of my first dbt Projects were about auditing and aligning dbt projects to our best practices - to see this codified in Explorer is a sight to see. If I had a dbt model for every time I was asked for Column Level Lineage, well let's just say I would have the biggest dbt mesh setup.
I'm in awe of our team for shipping this - this is fucking amazing. Congrats Cameron Afzal for leading the charge here!
If you want to learn more, you should check out our webinar. It might be creepy to give roses to your boss but a better dbt project? Now that's appropriate affection.

After running the Partner Engineering team at dbt Labs for about 3 years, the amount of times I have been asked "How do I integrate with dbt?" comes up more often than my cats interrupt my zoom calls (sometimes with their butts but luckily they're very cute). To fast forward to the fun conversations (What would actually be helpful to our dbt community for their workflows, etc?), I created this guide to cover the fundamentals. It's an overview of all the integration points we currently have today and how you could potentially use them.
Integrating with dbt Cloud is a requirement to being a technology partner of ours so if you're interested in building a commercial relationship with us, I recommend checking this out :)
